Few sedans matter more to Honda in Asia than the City, and the brand has just put that part of the world at the center of its plans. A new hybrid-focused strategy names North America, Japan, and India as priority markets, and right on cue, the Indian-market Honda City facelift has surfaced completely uncovered ahead of its scheduled reveal.

The fifth generation of the Honda City was introduced in 2019 and received a minor facelift in 2023. The second update for 2026 brings more substantial changes, helping it stay fresh against the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and VW Virtus.

The leak comes courtesy of journalist Akbar Merchant, who posted a photo of a prototype on X with no camouflage in sight. The image effectively spoils the May 22 debut. Based on what is visible here, we created a rendering showing the refreshed front end grafted onto the existing silhouette.

The headline change is up front. Slimmer LED headlights flank a more contemporary grille with a honeycomb pattern, the chrome bar is gone in favor of body-colored trim, and the Honda badge has been moved to the nose. The front bumper has been reworked too, with revised intakes and a sharper splitter.

The profile appears to be largely unchanged, but Honda will likely introduce new colors and alloy wheels. At the rear, the sedan could gain tweaked LED graphics for the taillights, possibly combined with small changes on the bumper trim.

The cabin is where the real upgrade pressure sits. Indian buyers have grown more demanding when it comes to in-car tech and comfort kit. The current 8-inch infotainment screen is likely to grow, with a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and a more capable Honda Sensing ADAS package all plausible additions.

The naturally aspirated 1.5-liter i-VTEC remains, producing 119 hp (89 kW 121 PS) and driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual or a CVT. The e:HEV hybrid stays on the menu too, with a combined 125 hp (93 kW 126 PS).

We will learn everything about the 2026 Honda City at the official presentation scheduled for May 22. The outgoing model is currently priced from ₹11,99,900 (about $12,500 at current rates) in India, though the e:HEV version starts significantly higher at ₹19,99,900 ($20,800).

The City is not the cheapest Honda sedan in the country, sitting above the smaller Amaze, which opens at ₹ 7 51 390 ($7,800).
