Warum das wichtig ist
- Doch Sonntagmittag kippte die Spannung endgültig über den Rand.
- Carpenter sah sein Rennen noch vor der 30-Runden-Marke zerstört.
- Ed Carpenter saw his race destroyed before he even hit the 30-lap mark.
The chaos kicked off early in the race. On lap 27, Carpenter and Sato found themselves locked in a fierce battle for position. Carpenter decided to make a bold move. He dove down to the inside of the Japanese veteran right as they flew into Turn 1. The pass ended in absolute disaster.

Sato turned his car into the corner, and the two machines suddenly made contact. The touch immediately pitched Carpenter into a wild spin. He slammed hard into the outside wall, instantly ending his race and bringing out the yellow flags. Carpenter’s Trackside Meltdown Walking away from a wrecked car at the Brickyard is always painful.

But for Carpenter, the pain instantly turned into pure rage. He climbed out of his ruined car while the track was under caution. As the rest of the pack slowly drove past the crash scene, Sato came back around. Carpenter did not hold back at all. The visibly angry driver repeatedly screamed “f*** you” directly at Sato’s passing car.

The intense moment went viral quickly. INDYCAR on FOX shared the broadcast clip on X, simply noting that Carpenter was “NOT happy” about the collision. “Way More Out of Him” Even after the adrenaline faded, Carpenter refused to let Sato off the hook. When he finally spoke to the media, he made it very clear who he blamed for the wreck.
He called Sato’s driving incredibly “disappointing”. Sato has a massive resume featuring years of experience in both Formula 1 and IndyCar. That veteran background made the Turn 1 squeeze even harder for Carpenter to accept.
He felt a driver with that much knowledge should have avoided turning down into the corner during that specific battle. “I would expect way more out of him,” Carpenter bluntly stated (via GPBlog ). While Sato kept driving, Carpenter was forced to watch the rest of the race from the sidelines.
It is safe to say these two drivers will not be exchanging any friendly words in the paddock anytime soon.
